Jack Dempsey was known for incorporating all sorts of different training methods to hone his signature crouching stance and famous two-fisted attack. One method included sessions on a full-sized, freestanding heavy bag, which more closely mimicked the movements of an actual fighter. With the movement originating from the floor and not from above, like a traditionally hung heavy bag, the “Manassas Mauler” would work on his explosive style, employing constant movement around the free-standing bag.
