Welcome, poets and word-wanderers, to a space where we dare to question and explore the edges of thought. We find beauty in the raw and unfiltered. Just as dVerse encourages us to delve into the depths of expression, today’s offering confronts the very foundations of belief, authority, and gods.

The original version was much harsher. I edited it to be more suitable for the public and to meet the prompt’s requirements. This helped clean up the ideas so it wasn’t just a bunch of rage on a page. Rage on a Page could be something I take up, lol.

The Empty Throne’s Lament

Your dual gods, I now disown,
The shallow words, I've overthrown,
The empty talk, I've never known,
And truth lies buried deep.

My spirit seeks a wider sway,
Where armies rise in fierce array,
Where knowledge fights in grim display,
And truth lies buried deep.

The demons rise, in fact's cold might,
They shame the soul, and dim the light,
They ban the books, and fear the fight,
And truth lies buried deep.

It’s a poem that sheds the veneer of polite conversation. It dives headfirst into the ‘carnage of obnoxious knowledge words,’ challenging the very notion of unquestioned faith. It also questions the stifling of dissenting voices about gods.

  1. Love the refrain in this poem. Great title, as well.

  2. Superb lines in this protest lament, staking your ground and standing on it…..superb stuff…

  3. Truth… a concept we have almost forgotten…. and I mean real truth

  4. The fight between lifting and burying truth here is occasioned by an empty throne — an abdicated order, yet fulfilled by a greater wider one? Lots to hmmmm here.

    1. I was angry when I wrote this. It’s trying to denounce ruling religions to be more independent.

  5. Love the title, complaint with the refrain: And truth lies buried deep. The first stanza is my favorite part. Thanks for joining the dVerse challenge. Have a good week.

    1. Thank you for reading!
