Yes! This challenge from the dVerse Poets Pub fits perfectly along the theme of what I have been drafting for the previous 6 months (dare I say, two years). Björn Rudberg challenges us to write a pome from a different perspective than we usually do, or to write a poem using multiple perspectives. I jumped on this opportunity to be supernatural with the vibes and to continue the theme from my upcoming collection, “Folklore and Flesh.”
We Are the Hunger
We are the hunger, the myth in your marrow,
The whispering orchard, the bone in the shadow.
We are the static in your drone’s last feed,
The hum in the hive, the venom in the seed.
We are the teeth in the garden’s mouth,
Roots curling up from the deep down south.
We are the rain that tears, the clay that sings,
The jaw unhinged, the hive with wings.
We consume—
Not just flesh, but memory,
Sip your sorrow like honey,
We are the archive, the echo, the uncanny.
We are the glitch in your livestream,
The fang in your smile,
We are viral, primal,
We archive your style.
We are the shapeshifters,
The cyborg’s dread,
We eat your silence,
We feast on what’s unsaid.
We are the ritual, the rhythm,
The drumbeat in the cave,
Obsidian blade,
We carve your fate.
We are the rain’s transaction,
The frog’s last croak,
We are the price you pay
When the old gods woke.
We are the hive mind,
The swarm in your skull,
We are the static, the fever,
The pull.
We are the clay that remembers,
The wound that won’t close,
We are the keeper of stories,
The thief of what you chose.
We are the monsters you made,
The ones you deny,
We are the hunger that waits
When you close your eyes.
We are the “we”—
The myth, the machine,
The curse, the queen,
The teeth in the screen.
We are the feast and the famine,
The shadow and the flame,
We are the story you tell
When you forget your name.
