I came back for another Quadrille challenge! This time, it feels like diving into the abyss, a thrilling experience with every prompt. I don’t always have the time, but I love starting my Mondays with these.

This poem was written in response to the prompt at Dverse, by Mish. Written as a Quadrille, the form is set at 44 words exactly, and must include the word “tangle” or a variation of it.

Dragged into the Abyss

Dragged into the Abyss
A shadow coils,
a quiet hiss,
A tangled maze—
no way to miss.
Thoughts unwind,
a tightening snare,
A voice that calls—
was it ever there?

Shadows bend,
breath departs,
A silent scream,
Eyes so dark.
It grins—

It was you from the start.

  4. An eerie quadrille, Willy, and not the sort of entangling in which I’d want to be involved!
