Most horror stories start with a scream. Real-life horror starts with a shrug.
I was recently nursing a cup of coffee when I stumbled upon the upcoming release details for FOUND TV’s first in-house original feature, A Possession in Lincoln County. On the surface, it sounds like standard genre fare: a man, a camera, and a deal with the Devil. However, if we step out of the multiplex and apply our critical lenses, we start to see the structural rot beneath the floorboards.
Release Date: October 22, 2026.
I score this release premise ☕☕☕☕ (4 out of 5 coffee mugs). I’m doing my due diligence as an indie horror fan/publisher and sharing this movie with you all.
The Bones: The Structural Siege of Terminal Illness
- The Hook: The film, directed by Louie La Vella and written by Monica La Vella, follows Jake, a man documenting his wife’s terminal battle with cancer.
- The Turn: When her diagnosis becomes terminal, desperation leads him to an ancient ritual.
- The Escalation: What begins as an act of love rapidly spirals into kidnapping, demonic ritual, and the severe consequences of asking for a favor that should never be granted.
- The Pacing: Produced for under $10,000, this 72-minute found-footage film strips away the Hollywood gloss. Found footage is the ultimate exercise in the Todorovian Fantastic, forcing us to hesitate between the uncanny and the marvelous. By trapping us in a raw, hyper-subjective perspective, it forces us into a duration of uncertainty.

The Spark: Evocative Lines
“The camera doesn’t just capture the devil; it captures the desperate, violent lengths a man will go to when the biological hierarchy of his life collapses.”
The Real Monster
Here is where the “real” monster resides. The Devil isn’t the antagonist here; the healthcare system and the absolute deprivation of human agency are. When the state—operating through objective rationalism—declares a body “terminal,” the subject is stripped of control. Jake’s descent into the occult is a violent reclamation of agency. He is attempting to exert control over the asemantic void of death. The demonic ritual is merely a symptom of a man refusing to accept the clinical gaze of his failing world.
The Business Risk (The Plot Hole)
If I’m putting on my editor’s hat for this review, here is the brilliant business risk the filmmakers are taking: Elite Scarcity. FOUND TV is releasing a strictly limited, 500-copy physical Blu-ray. This edition features an alternate ending that will never be released on FOUND TV or made available through streaming.
Director and FOUND TV co-founder Louie La Vella noted, “If someone is supporting an independent film by owning it physically, we wanted to give them something that can’t just be watched online later. There are only going to be 500 copies with this ending, and that’s it”. By artificially restricting the film’s ultimate conclusion, FOUND TV isn’t just selling a disc. Instead, they are manufacturing the Sublime, which Edmund Burke defines as being found in the “obscure”. Furthermore, they are withholding the “truth” in an era of digital abundance. This strategy proves that the ultimate rhetorical power lies in what you refuse to distribute.
The Release Logistics
For the uninitiated, A Possession in Lincoln County stars Matt Gallagher Heakes, Sabrina Knappett, Hannah Brennen, and JoAnn Bundock. The theatrical premiere hits the Hamilton Film Festival on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The screening includes a Q&A featuring members of the filmmaking team. The film will make its streaming debut worldwide on FOUND TV on Friday, October 23. Moreover, FOUND TV+ subscribers receive one-day early access on October 22.
Join The Ritual
In a world that pathologizes grief, is Jake’s turn to the occult a descent into madness, or is it the ultimate act of parrhesia—fearless truth-telling from a position of absolute powerlessness?
